Three dysfunctional roommates: an armchair philosopher, well-off barista and a go-getter Coles employee protest their vitriolic landlord when their rent is raised.

An original play written by Nic Davidson (@_nicdavidson) and Directed by India Rose (@thetravellingrose_theatre), Crow’s Nest explores the current rental market and cost-of-living crisis from the perspective of the renters just trying to make ends meet.

Genevieve Grace

Peets plays the role of Genevieve, one of the housemates. Hard-working, hypercritical, and lower-class, Genny wishes the others would clean up their act.

A ‘straight-laced’ character amongst a house of clowns, Peets harnessed heightened realism and characterisation to bring Genevieve to life, in the hopes of anchoring audiences to the reality of the rental crises, living in the lower income bracket, and balancing these tensions with others.

Collaboration

An original devised theatre piece inspired by common group experiences, early 2000 Australian “dramadies” and the menacing presence of a crow, Peets contributed to early-stage conceptions, workshop improvisations, and ongoing storyline/character discoveries with the other cast and crew on the rehearsal room floor to assist with developing the writing of the play.

Commitment

A supercharged creation and rehearsal process, Crow’s Nest and Genevieve was created, rehearsed, and produced in a limited time span which required complete commitment to the project and upholding professional and reliable practices to be a reliable and dependable creative collaboration member.

Characterisation

Creating an in-depth character profile, developing personality traits according to the writing, and conceiving a background story while exploring physicalisation and interpersonal dynamics during rehearsals allowed Peets to bring Genevieve to life on stage, and help communicate the story of Crow’s Nest according to the writer and directors vision.
